The Good News

1) My Grandpa and cousin came to visit and I haven't seen my Grandpas since I was old enough to remember. So that was cool. I saw Lord of the Dance in concert. We went to a clogging convention. And basically I did all the things these past two weeks. Oh, except for breathing. I knew I had forgotten something.

2) My car has a new windshield. It used to have a huge crack across it. But now it's new and beautiful! Yay!

3) My mom's making dinner so that solves my hunger problem.

4) I applied to a university and I got admitted!! Whooo!

6) Next week doesn't look half as busy so I'll go hardcore introvert and lock myself away to write, read, and practice guitar.

7) Despite the computer still running slow, grrrr, I'm hoping to get some more popcorn reviews up. And one day, I can catch up on reading your wonderful blogs and replying to comments.

Needlessly to say, I'm on a blogging hiatus for the most part. Life doesn't seem to like me much at the moment, but I refuse to stay down.

Calvin and Hobbes, consider this day seized!:

Hopefully, life and I will be on more friendly terms next month. So for now, I'll leave you with these wise words.

  1. Oh no! I'm sorry your computer crashed!!

Sounds like you've had a really busy couple of weeks! Congrats on getting into a university, that's awesome!!

I can totally relate to going hardcore introvert! I've been doing that today without really meaning to because I've been trying to recover from a cold.

    1. Yeah. It's getting better though!

      Thank you muchly. :)

Oh, that's sad. I hate being sick. I'm always, "Now I can get some reading done." But then I'm so miserable I don't even want to watch Sherlock (one has to be really sick if Sherlock isn't even watched). I hope you feel better soon!

  2. The everyday feels.

    Sigh.

Congrats on everything good! (especially the Grandpa and the University thing) and it must totally suck to have your computer crash. (Don't worry though, things will get better)

Love those gifs, by the way. And those Calvin and Hobbes quotes.

  7. Hope computer stuff is going OK now <3 I love that gif, do you watch Brooklyn 99 or is it coincidental?

Also oh my gosh that Sherlock/John pic!!!

I too am hungry, and my beloved father, just as I was typing that, uttered the words, "Anyone thinking about some grub?" so my luck is starting to turn!

    Also, what IS clogging?

    1. Yes, thank you! It's much better now for the most part. I don't actually know what Brooklyn 99 is? I just happened upon the gif and was like, "I don't know the show, but I could so use this gif one day."

I know, right!? If it was a tangible picture, I would probably hug it. (Thankfully though, it is not tangible, or people might question my sanity. . .)

Whoop! Whoop! For parents who make food!

Oh, Em, you asked the question of my life! You might be regretting it. You might never ask me another question again. Because I'm going to get a little nerdy. Clogging is a percussive dance. Most people say, "Isn't it tap dance?" Or "You mean like the Riverdance?" Or worse, "Oh, the wooden shoes!"

We don't wear wooden shoes. That's absurd. And sounds painful.

Clogging is a folk dance so it doesn't have a written history. Although, that doesn't keep cloggers from trying to track down it's origins. I've heard many clogging instructors who are pursuing a Masters in Dance do their thesis on the origins of clogging, and there are a ton of theories out there. (Sorry, run-on sentence there.) We have taps on the bottom of our shoes, but unlike tap, we use a buck tap. The buck tap has a metal piece raised up over another raised metal. So there are two sounds sounds: the metal on the floor, and the metal against metal. The addition of taps to clogging shoes is fairly a new thing, perhaps the recent fifty years. Before that cloggers would simply dance in whatever shoes they were wearing. Clogging is much louder than tap and the choreography techniques are different as well. Clogging has been derived from many dance forms, mainly the Germans, as well as the Irish, and Scottish. They say it really started forming in the Appalachian Mountains where the immigrants would dance for fun and the people would have dance offs when they get together or would dance while a friend played the fiddle on the porch. Clogging is continually changing though. It's been influenced by African dancing, tap dancing, Irish step dancing, Canadian step dancing (the latter being my fav influence). There are a lot of different forms and styles (buck, line, drag slide, etc.), as well as levels (beginner to advanced). There's competitions and conventions. (I don't compete.) It's a ton of fun. You can youtube clogging dance (just be sure you put "dance" also, or else you'll find videos for unclogging a toilet. . .). I don't know if you've heard of All That? They're an all male clogging team (I think the only all male clogging team) who do some really advanced advanced clogging (sooo wish I was that good). You could youtube them. There's also this youtube video of All That and All It, which is really fun to watch. The team All That and some old school, well known national instructors posing as All It have a fun dance off in the video.

I wrote a really old post on clogging too that has some videos.

So, um, sorry if I bored you. XD But, hey, now you know what clogging is.

    2. It's a brilliant sit com about the NYPD, I love it!

Wow, OK, I do now know what clogging is! I have not heard of All That but I just looked them up and ... OK! That is quite cool. I probably would make the fatal error, had you not told me, of confusing it with tap dancing, but I understand (now) that is a terrible blunder and I'm glad you've lifted me out of ignorance!

    3. I feel bad that my comment is so much shorter than yours (though that tends to be the way with comment convos, they taper) but I cannot adequately respond to the wealth of your clogging knowledge!

    4. Also I totally forgot to comment on the fact you got into uni!?!???!!! HECK YES WELL DONE GIRL! Can I ask where? And for what? And just, wow!

    5. Really? It sounds neat! Crime shows are one of my favorites.

Haha! Don't worry. I don't hold grudges about the tap dancing reference, because unless you are actually involved in clogging it's an easy assumption to make. Although, there are cloggers who are less forgiving. . .

Don't feel bad. My comment was just super long because, I might have really geeked out about clogging. *cough*

THANKS SO MUCH! It's in Florida. I'll be going for an English degree with Creative Writing emphasis. It'll be an adventure.

    6. Ha, it's barely a crime show, it's just funny, I do love it. Andy Samberg's in it, my love <3

I'll make sure to look out for those frightening cloggers ...

Amazing! I'm going to ask you about this further in a general life email.
