Summer Writing Camp #7 - It's the last one!

So summer is coming to a close. Do you know how much I dislike saying that? I don't even what to look at all the school supplies the stores have put up. And I like that kind of stuff. Pencils and notebooks. *sighs*

Moving onward, this will be our last and final prompt for the summer. It makes me sad. I love reading all of your creative ideas. They are all so different, even though the prompt is the same! It's amazing how diverse everyone is.

If you want to join, it's one of the easiest things in the world. You come up with something related to the prompt. Be it short story, poetry, song, a scene, whatever you want. Get creative. Have fun with it! Link back here and you've done it. You have joined us for our finally Summer Writing Camp.

The deadline is August 28th.

Fellow blogglings your prompt is:

  3. Nooo not the last one! I WON'T GO BACK TO SCHOOL! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!!!!

I have really enjoyed this link-up, though I've participated less than I would have liked. Definitely do it again next summer! / you could just, uh, keep it going ... autumn link-up, anyone??

Really, though, I've absolutely loved it because it's enabled me to write a few things kinda out of my comfort zone, after being stuck on le novel for so long -- I've found it really helpful experimenting with different genres, tenses, POVs etc. Hey hey here's a wild idea, we could, like, collaborate on a monthly writing link-up? Or something? ????

    1. *moans* We are slaves to the system of education. But since I'm in college, I guess I'm a voluntary slave, hence I shouldn't exactly complain. . .

      I've considered that.

Yes! We should totally collaborate for a link-up. That's the most fantabulous idea of ever! We must talk more on this. Is your email on you blog?

    2. Done! (And I honestly will email you RE collaboration .... in the fullness of time!)

  5. Ooh, I like this prompt, but since I have a lot of posts scheduled ahead, I'll just do it here. So, here goes nothing:

"I used to think ghosts confined themselves to aged walls, pressed themselves between stained plaster, hid beneath crumbling roofs, and lay in wait for the living to come too close. I used to think I was safe when I stayed far from the shadowy woods and the abandoned tucked back within the safety of the woods, because I never thought the ghosts would come after me.

I only realized how wrong I was on the day everyone but me died. I don't mean everyone--not everyone in the whole wide world. Billions of people still rise every morning and sip coffee, ruffle the morning paper, share cross words with cranky relatives and balance checkbooks as they stumble along the tightrope wire of life. But everyone in my town died--all fifty-two of them. Lost to the war, lost to the white kiss of death.

I only realized then where ghosts live. They live in your mind, in the hallways of your memories. When you walk by a familiar sight--a house, a streetlight, a café--those ghosts reach out with their pale fingers and trace the outline of your existence, show you all the pain you carry in your heart like a pail of salt water. So the house--the physical place--that's not haunted. But the people who walk through the emptiness--who find they can never leave the haunted places of their memories--they are."

    1. Wow. I love this! It's just- so true and just beautiful. (Other people should read this!)

"stumble along the tightrope wire of life" - so true. I feel like that a lot sometimes.

I love your interpretation here! The ending!

    2. Thanks! Maybe I'll turn it into a short story, or something, and post it on my blog in a month or so. I'm glad you liked it! :)
